The Charlotte Symphony (CSO) announced today that the Director of Oratorio Singers, Scott Allen Jarrett, has been named Director of Choruses & Assistant Conductor. The new title better aligns with the growing role that Jarrett plays with the Symphony and the Symphony’s Chorus, the Oratorio Singers of Charlotte.
Currently in his eighth season as Director, Jarrett conducts many of the chorus appearances with the Charlotte Symphony, including the annual Messiah performances, the Piccolo Spoleto Festival concerts, and this season’s performances of Orff’s Carmina Burana. Under Jarrett’s leadership, the chorus has grown in size and quality, attracting many of Charlotte’s finest volunteer singers.
“Scott demonstrates extraordinary leadership and artistic intelligence and under his directorship the chorus has flourished,” said CSO Music Director Christopher Warren- Green. “The progress is remarkable, and the entire Charlotte musical community is fortunate to have such excellent leadership.”
A resident of Boston, Jarrett travels weekly to Charlotte and maintains a busy schedule along the East Coast. He currently serves as the Music Director of the Boston Back Bay Chorale, Director of Music at Boston University’s Marsh Chapel and the Associate Director of Choral Activities at the Boston University School of Music.
"I'm thrilled to have spent eight seasons with the Charlotte Symphony and Oratorio Singers, and I'm honored by this vote of confidence from Maestro Warren Green. We have a world-class musical scene in Charlotte, and I'm very excited to be in this new role to bring the chorus and orchestra to new levels of artistic growth," said Jarrett.
Jarrett served eight summers on the conducting staff at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. He received Master of Music and Doctorate of Music degrees from Boston University and a Bachelor of Music degree from Furman University.
Jarrett’s new title is effective with the December 14 performance of Handel’s Messiah at the Belk Theater. Performed with the Charlotte Symphony, the annual production will showcase the emerging core of energy within the chorus. Ticket information is available at www.charlottesymphony.org.
